Pontardawe Summerfest 2010 Friday 13th August & Saturday 14th August
& the Ponty Fringe Festival. Thursday 12th August to Sunday 15th August 2010

The Ponty Fringe Festival kicks off this year’s event on Thursday 12th August  and runs through to Sunday 14th August 2010. With “Mike Japp” appearing in the Other Place, and “Faded Glory” in the Pontardawe Inn, both start at 9pm.
The Pontardawe Inn, The Pink Geranium, The Other Place, The Jubilee Club and The Ivy Bush will all host several bands over the weekend see the full itinerary for more info.
This weekend has always seen a great atmosphere with music ringing from the pubs and folk dancing in the Streets.
The Fringe Festival traditionally accompanies the Pontardawe Music Festival, however this year The Music Festival preferred to see the festivities run over two weekends. The Field event will be held 20/21 August at Parc Ynysderw.

The Summerfest Town event will accompany the Pub Fringe Festival opening on Friday 13th August at 4pm.
There will be Food & Craft Stalls in the Street Market, Entertainment outside the Arts Centre, and a Ferris Wheel, overlooking the Town and the open air “No Fit State” Circus Parklife project.
The Arts Centre Theatre will host the “Music of The Valleys” night featuring the Local Acoustic Club performers on Friday evening starting 7.30pm.
The entertainment outside the Arts Centre will close with the Street Torchlit Parade. Commencing from the Pontardawe Football Club on Friday 13th August at 9.15pm.
Led by Pipers, the Parade will wind its way through the Town to the Arts Centre, where there will be performances by the Torchlit Paraders.
The local Pubs will continue with their Live Bands, entertaining you till late in the evening.

On Saturday 14th August at 10am The Town Summerfest continues, with Folk Dancing in the Street, at either end of the Street Market in Herbert Street. Live Entertainment will run throughout the day, on The Town Bandstand and The Marquee Stage at the Arts Centre. The Ferris Wheel at Lower Herbert Street will be open from 11am till 4pm.

The St. Peter’s Flower Festival will open its doors at 11am. Each window will be beautifully decorated with flowers depicting “The Changing Scenes of Life”.
Accompanying the opening of the St. Peter’s Flower Festival, from 11am till 12.30pm there will be Acoustic Duo, “Andrew & Hillary plus friends”.
There will be a refreshments and Craft stall.
(Later in the week, on Fri 20th Aug at 7pm, “Swansea Gospel Male Voice Choir” will be in concert at the Church. Sunday 22nd Aug at 10.30am there will be Bilingual Family Service).

The Town Road Train will run from 11am till 5pm. Let this quaint little train take you and your children on a short journey through the streets of Pontardawe, to the “No Fit State Circus” open air rig, at the Recreation Ground. Here you will be able to watch the Performers go through their routines in readiness for that evening’s Parklife Spectacular. In the afternoon you will be able to have a go at some of the circus skills for yourself, with free public taster sessions from 2.30pm till 3.20pm.

At 1.30pm on Saturday the 14th August, the Folk Dance Parade will set off. This is often the highlight of the weekend, following the route of the Torchlit Parade, up to 400 Paraders will Dance and Play their way through the Town streets to The Arts Centre.
With groups including “Wonderbrass”, “Sweyns Eye“, “Lau Gar Lion Dance“, “Victoria Trehar Irish Dancers“, and many, many more, it will be a Parade to rival last year’s excellent Parade.
At the Marquee Stage there will follow a full programme of Dancing and Music from the Paraders.

The Street Market will close at 4pm. However the outside Entertainment will continue on the Marquee Stage with local musicians performing in “Noson o Gerddoriaith Draddodiodol Gymraeg” from 7pm till 9pm.

At 7.30pm “Expression Cubana”, an Amazing 9 piece Salsa Band, will perform on the Arts Centre Theatre Stage. Come and enjoy the Music, or maybe practise your Salsa moves from earlier in day at the FREE Salsa Workshop held between 3pm and 3.30pm.

The Summerfest concludes with a spectacular FREE outdoor Circus and Firework Extravaganza! The “No Fit State Circus’s”, Parklife Performance will feature local groups from the community alongside “No Fit State Circus’s” own performers.
This is a Wales 1st for the World renowned Company, and a real coup for Pontardawe.
No better way to send off the Town’s 2nd Summerfest!

Remember you will still be able to catch Live bands in the local pubs on Saturday & Sunday too, (see the full running list in our itinerary).

We hope we have something for everyone in this year’s attractions, and trust you have a wonderful time. Thank you for your support from The Pontardawe Chamber of Trade & Commerce members, who work voluntarily to host and arrange events in Pontardawe.
